Scott Urick is entering his sixth season as the Head Coach of Georgetown Prep School’s varsity lacrosse team. During Coach Urick’s first five seasons at Prep, the team won two IAC Championships. He has had the honor of coaching two IAC Players of the Year, two USA Lacrosse All-Americans, one USA Lacrosse Academic All-American, and one Bob Scott Award winner.

Before coming to Prep, Coach Urick started the men’s lacrosse program at the University of the District of Columbia.  He was hired in 2012 as the school’s first ever head lacrosse coach and guided the program for four seasons.  

Before UDC, Coach Urick worked at Georgetown University for eleven years as an Assistant Coach and Offensive Coordinator.  Georgetown finished ranked in the top 10 in the country in seven of those seasons and qualified for the NCAA tournament and advanced to the Quarterfinal round from 2002 to 2007.  Coach Urick helped 24 players earn All-American distinction, including the 2002 Lt. Raymond J. Enners Award winner for most outstanding player in the country, Steve Dusseau. Urick mentored 18 different players to All-Big East accolades and helped 28 different players earn All-ECAC honors including the 2002, 2004, and 2007 Offensive Players of the Year.He coached at Cornell University for one season before Georgetown.

Urick played nine years of professional lacrosse in the MLL, spending eight years with the New Jersey Pride (2001-08), and the 2009 season with the Washington Bayhawks.  A four-time all-star selection, Urick was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2002 MLL All-Star Game after netting four goals and handing out one assist.  Urick, who once appeared in 76-straight MLL games, scored 234 goals in 102 career games and retired as the third all-time leading scorer in league history.

During the summer of 2006, Urick was a member of the United States national team, which advanced to the championship game of the World Lacrosse Championships in Ontario, Canada.  Urick scored a team-high 20 goals for Team USA.

Urick graduated from Georgetown as the school's all-time leading goal scorer with 144 and is second in Georgetown history with 47 goals in one season.  He was a two-time All-America selection and was a captain in both his junior and senior years.  Urick recorded 180 career points, the fifth highest total in school history, and played on four NCAA Tournament teams, including the 1999 team which advanced to the NCAA Semifinals.  An All-Tournament selection in 1999, he also represented Georgetown in the 2000 North/South All-Star game and was the team MVP.  

Scott Urick was inducted into the Potomac Chapter of the US Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2011, inducted into the James W. Robinson Hall of Fame in 2013, and the Georgetown University Athletics Hall of Fame in 2019.

 

Wes Speaks

St. John’s College High School

Coach Speaks is entering his seventh year at St. John’s. During his first six seasons, Coach’s record was 69-15 with two WCAC Championships, one WCAC runner up, and one DC Championship. He has had the honor of coaching three WCAC Player of The Year in 2017, 2019,and 2022. Speaks has also coached three US Lacrosse All Americans.

Prior to St. John’s, Speaks was the associate head coach and defensive coordinator at Gettysburg College. During his three seasons on staff, Gettysburg posted a 44-10 record, with a 21-3 record in the Centennial Conference. The team had a perfect conference record in each of his last two seasons and won the conference championships. Gettysburg played in the NCAA semifinals during the 2015 and 2016 seasons. Speaks coached 13 All-Americans at Gettysburg, helping to develop 3 first team honorees, 23 All-Centennial players, and two Centennial Conference Players of The Year. The Bullets finished ranked sixth nationally in scoring defense for the 2016 season, allowing just 6.3 goals per game.  

Before joining the Gettysburg staff, Speaks spent two years as defensive coordinator for McDaniel College. In 2012, he helped the team finish fourth in the Centennial Conference. Prior to McDaniel, Speaks coached the East Cobb Thunder Lacrosse Club based in Marietta, GA. 

Speaks is a native of Fairfax, Va. He played high school lacrosse for Robinson Secondary. Speaks was a three-year starter at Towson University, and team captain. Speaks earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Towson and a master’s degree in exercise science from McDaniel College. Coach is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). He also earned his Executive Certification in Leadership from the University of Notre Dame.

He lives with his wife, Alexis, their son, George, and daughter Ryan in Georgetown.
